The two points we looked at were
character and competence. There are three more C’s that will
allow us to earn the right to be heard.
Consideration – Consideration
might best be understood as love on a smaller scale. Love is
about sacrifice and how much we love someone depends on how
much we’re willing to sacrifice for them.
Consideration involves small
sacrifices for people you don’t know. It means holding the
door open for someone holding your temper when most people
in similar situations fly off the handle. Consideration is
living out the golden rule, treating others the way you want
to be treated.
Probably holding the door open for
someone isn’t going to open up the door for you to present
the gospel, but the person who is with you might notice that
you always go out of your way to be considerate.
Courage – “The desire for
safety stands against every noble and great endeavor.” –
Tacitus
Every Christian should want to do great things for God.
Although God has gifted us differently, we’ve all been
gifted to do great things for Him. Our problem lies in a
lack of courage or trust in our abilities.
Courage doesn’t mean that we put our
self in harm’s way to share the gospel but it means that we
are willing to go out on a limb. We may be looked at
strangely or rejected by people because we are willing to
stand up for what we believe.
Communication – When we have
earned the right to be heard, we must then actually
communicate the truth. We must be prepared to give an answer
for our faith at all times. If we are unprepared we may not
have another opportunity.
We don’t have all of the answers and
won’t be able to answer every question a person may have.
However, there are some simple questions that we should
always be able to answer, such as, why are you a Christian?
Why should I become a Christian?
