Appendix B

These are questions and statements that you may encounter in evangelism. Often they are said by cynics and skeptics who are the least open to the gospel but they may be said by anyone. When you are able to adequately answer these types of questions that people have you will help them overcome mental or emotional boundaries that prevent them from putting their faith in Christ.

Many of these questions are my own but some have been suggested by students online drawing from their own personal experiences.

I plan on waiting until I'm older to become a Christian. I don't want God to get in the way right now. Why should I waste my time in church now when I can make a decision on my deathbed?

I'm a good person. How can a loving God send a good person to hell?

Why should I believe in God? Every good scientist says that we evolved anyway.

Every Christian I know is a hypocrite. Why would I want to be a Christian?

Don't I have to be perfect before I can become a Christian?

I'd like to become a Christian, but I don't understand what all those preachers are talking about. Being born again, sanctification, justification... Can you explain to me how to become a Christian in terms I can understand?

How can you say that your religion is the only way to heaven? Isn't that a little arrogant?

Well, the Bible may say that, but it's just a book written by man. How is it any different from the Koran, the teachings of Confucius or the Code of Hammurabi?

What makes Jesus better than the Muslim god, Allah or any other god?

Of course I believe in Jesus, he was a good man. That other stuff about miracles and rising from the dead is a bit preposterous though. You don't believe any of that nonsense do you?

How can you believe the Bible when there are so many things that can't be proven? Where is the archaeological evidence of all those kingdoms the Bible talks about?

The Bible may have some good principles to live by, but it can't be all true. It isn't scientifically possible for the sun to stand still, donkeys to talk, or people to live 900 years. Those are just children's stories and prove that the Bible isn't accurate.

I go to church every Sunday! What do you mean I'm not a Christian?

There have been many prophets who claim to have been instructed by God. So how do we know that Jesus wasn't just a man claiming to be the son of God? What proof can you give me he was?

What proof is there that Jesus was crucified on the cross and then was risen from the dead? That is just a glorified myth.

Why isn't God talking to anyone as it was in the Bible anymore? How then do we know he ever even did, there is nobody around to state that it was true.

How can one know for sure that heaven even exists? I think when you die that's it. So that's how I am living my life.

I really don't have the time. Why should I waste it with church?

The concept of heaven and hell are outdated in today's world.

Many people I know have never turned to the Lord but are very successful in their lives.

If God is so loving, won’t he give us a second chance at death?

Why should I care?

How do I know God wants me in His heaven?

Why does God allow bad things to happen to people?
