This represents a hard hearted person.
They do not want to hear anything about the gospel. Just
like the footpath, they may have been walked over by many
people and now they are hard to the world. Maybe they think
that Christians are losers who waste their time worshipping
a God who doesn’t exist. Maybe they were hurt by someone in
a church and they don’t want to have anything to do with
Christianity. There are as many excuses as there are people.
Regardless, when the seed is
scattered, it can’t take root because the ground is too
hard. The seed ends up as bird food because birds come and
snatch away the seed. Satan doesn’t want this person to
remember what they were told about the gospel, so he makes
them forget quickly and then the seed is gone.
The person whose heart is hard soil is
overcome by the Devil. Hard soil is the hardest of the four
soils to work with because it takes so much work to change
it and sometimes it just can’t be dug up and planted on.
